The innovative, GIS-based, e-tool which helps facilitate the site selection process for new and expanding businesses in Charlotte County won the coveted 2007 IT Florida Excellence in New Business Recruitment Award. Competing against the best in the state (Economic Development Commission of Florida's Space Coast; Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission; and the Pensacola Chamber of Commerce/iTen Wired), Charlotte County EDO is very proud to win this award and shares the honor with Charlotte County GIS, who helped develop the application; with special thanks to Enterprise Charlotte who helped fund the project. In December 2004, Kiplinger's Letter cited that Punta Gorda is among the fastest job growth areas in Florida, now to 2030. Also listed were Orlando and Naples, with jobs that are likely to grow nearly 3% per year on average.

 
In its July 2004 edition, Kiplinger's Letter reported that new college grads are abandoning the big cities for small cities and towns, and Port Charlotte is specifically mentioned as one of the premier areas for relocation.  Details
